Bananagrams is a fast and fun word game that requires no pencil, paper or board. All you need is a table. One hand can be played in as little as five minutes. It is a great for family fun as well as being educational. Bananagrams portability makes it perfect for travel. Just grab the pouch and go.

Played this game with a niece and mother-in-law who is elderly and got it so we could keep my mother-in-laws mind working. She enjoys playing it.

Excellent .................

Perfect for whiling away a quiet evening with the added advantage of being a lot of fun !!

Great for teaching kids how to join letters to make words in a fun way .......

Better than Scrabble

My family loves this game! It's basically all of the fun of Scrabble and none of the hassle (no scoring, counting up points, or waiting forever while someone is playing their turn). It's great for all ages (as long as they can spell), flexible enough to accommodate multiple players, and still fun even with just two people. It's portable enough to take while traveling, and it's easy to teach new players how to play it. The packaging is also cute and makes a nice gift.

Best new game in years

I've played this game with 6 year olds to 80 year olds and had fun each time, more importantly, they did too. Easy to carry around and easy to play, probably the best new game I've seen in years.

Great game for the whole family!

I couldn't believe that I ordered this game on a Tuesday and it was here with the mail on Wednesday. I would have paid more money for it in a store and I didn't have to use any gas or time to find it! The delivery was UNBELIEVABLE!! Couldn't ask for any more!

Best game ever.

This is the best board game ever made. There needs to be nothing else written about Settlers of Catan. In fact, everything else I'm writing beyond that first sentence is extraneous. If you're still reading this and not purchasing said board game, you are wasting your time.

Rating :

Great group game!

Settlers is a great strategy game geared for a wide audience. The pieces and board were made to be durable and every match is always different due to the different land tiles and different number placings. I'd say the game is a mix between Risk and Monopoly.

love it

the game came quickly and in great shape. It is a lot of fun, but a little hard to figure out at first if you have not ever played the game before.

My favorite board game

Settlers of Catan is by far my favorite board game. We encountered it a few years back and it continues to remain the favorite. The standard version is for 4 people, with the minimum age around 10. Extensions are available, and you can easily change some rules if there are only 3 of you. A typical game lasts about an hour.

The players compete to acquire resources and construct roads, settlements, cities etc. There is also an amount of chance since you use two dice at each turn to determine who gets what resources. In that respect it is like many other board games. But there are three main factors that make it very interesting and why everyone feels that they can have a chance of winning each game: (1) the board setup is random, so that everytime you play, it IS a new game (there is a Nexus One app available that allows you to get a more balanced board), and (2) you can trade resources, and only the player whose turn it is can trade so that each time you have a possibility of acquiring points, and (3) there are many ways of acquiring points to take you to victory.

Incidently, Amir Khan once said on his blog that he likes to play Settlers of Catan a lot.

Due to the large number of possibilities the first time you play it seems a bit daunting. But it is worth every bit of you time and effort. The game was apparently invented in Germany to teach about capitalism. It has one the 'Spiel des Jahres' (game of the year) award in 1995.

Great Game for Everyone!

I was amazed I had never heard of this game until now. A friend of ours recommended it while visiting, so we ran out and purchased the game right away. That night we played until 1 AM in the morning. This game is fun!

The instruction book is rather large, but the gist of the game is on the first two pages. My 8-year old daughter picked up the game right away and now wants to play all the time. I really like the fact that the game play is different every time. It is definitely a strategy style game and take a few games under your belt to start developing your own strategies.

Our edition came with extra plastic bags for all the pieces. And everything fits nicely into the box. The game board, at first, fit very tight into the surrounding edges. I found that if I took some of the hex pieces and just rubbed the edges on the table to flatten out the nubs created when punching them out of the cardboard that it fit nicely into the surrounding pieces. You might want to do that too.

If you like playing games, this is a must. This is our new 'family game night' game to play. For two players, the game play lasts 30 minutes to an hour. You can figure that for every extra person play, it will add about 30 minutes or so to the game play.

You can't go wrong buying this game!

Great game!

Received this game yesterday and played it last night at our ladies (all over 30) game night, everyone loved it! In fact one of the ladies called after she got home to ask me to order her one. Can't wait to play it with my family, I think my children will like it as well.

The game is a combo of luck (what tiles you pick from the bag) and strategy but mostly strategy. It's all how you play your tiles as to how many points you get so one has to think a bit which is a good thing.

I think this is a game we'll come back to time and again. If you are questioning as to whether or not to buy it go ahead you'll not be sorry.

perfect for all ages

Looked everywhere for this game after playing it with friends. Nobody stocked it after Christmas. All my grandkids 4 and up love it and fun for adults too. Ordered it 3 days before a birthday and it got here in time. Highly recommend. Educational too!

Addictive Fun

This game is fun for all ages. No age is exempt, we had players as young as 6 and as old as 68 playing and they all have gotten as addicted as I am to this game. You just can't stop playing it.

Rating :

Beware: Addictive game!

We are hooked and so are our friends! Teaches strategy adjustment - no two opponents play the same. If you want to win, you will need to adjust your play to counter your opponents' strategies.

good game to help with analytical thought

I first tried playing with my wife to see how it worked and my son watched. I played with him yesterday and he actually did better than my wife. I think it teaches him to look at things differently and to have patients. I just wish that the tiles were a little thinner so it did not take up too much space in the bag. it would also make the box lighter. It is a good tame though. I am glad that I purchased it.

I bought for my daughter but use it more than she does!

I bought this for my 7 year old and she took one look at it and said- we have that at school. I would describe this when played alone as more of a puzzle rather than a game. I ended up using it myself and am addicted! It is a great way to take a break from the daily grind. The NYtimes.com has a free online version which they change daily. It is a great way to mix fun and using your brain at the same time.

Not as fun as we thought

Our adult friends LOVE this game and encouraged me to buy it for my kids for Christmas. It has been played 2 times and that has been by me and a couple of my children. Our kids do not choose to play this game. It is great and gets you to thinking.

Great game

At first this game seemed a little confusing to play, but once we figured out what a "set" was, it was AWESOME!!! It does get frustrating at times, since the sets are not always easy to see.....then again, thats the fun of it. My 15 year old daughter seems to have a good eye for the sets and beats us everytime!!! Def a lot of fun for the whole family....all ages.

Rating :

Fun for all ages

This game is great fun for the whole family. The more you play, the better (quicker) you can pick out sets, but what we really like is that there is no particular advantage based on age or size.

We play as a family and my 9 year old daughter has just as much opportunity and likelihood to win as I do.

The more often you play, you will develop an advantage over those who play less frequently.

This game is fun and challenging for everyone.

Fun brain exercise for all ages - My family loves this game!

Our family loves this game more than any other game we've played together. Our 4-year-old plays right along with the rest of us. It is an engaging exercise in pattern matching that provides equal footing for players of all ages (ages 4-5 and up).

Our seven-year old can win this game against her elders without any "special rules" or other such condescensions. Usually games that young children can realistically play and win are based on chance and don't involve much thinking.

This game is based on the ability to mentally organize four categories and is quick and easy to learn, without waiting turns and without many rules to learn. These features also make it very easy to play with people who have never played it before. There is not much they need to know before starting the game. (Hint: study the examples on the box to jump-start your understanding.)

An excellent game, just excellent!

Apples to Apples

My mom got us this game for Christmas and I LOVE it!! We had to sorta cull through the cards though. If we get it for someone as a gift we will get the Jr. verson. The bible verson is to hard.

Rating :

It used to be fun

I have played Apples to Apples many times, and each time I play it, it gets less and less fun. The game was hilarious the first time I played with friends, and it was rather fun to play several times afterward as well. It is also a good ice-breaker game. However, it seems like at every party or when friends would come over, we would play Apples to Apples. I think that since the game is simplistic, it runs out of fun rather quickly, even with the variations. The fun part of playing is coming up with ironic noun/adjective combinations, but after a while it gets old to be matching Helen Keller with "insert adjective here". Some of the card parings are really funny, but after playing the game for a while, you see similar combinations, and they become less funny/amusing/entertaining.

I think that it's fun when you are picking the nouns for your adjective card, but even then it gets old. The rest of the time, you are hoping that you don't end up with boring nouns and no one picks your card.

I guess if you like games that require no thought and are extremely repetitive, or you are only planning to play this game once every couple of parties/etc, then I guess you'll like Apples to Apples.

Rating :

Fun for ages 8 to 88.

Someone brought Apples to Apples to a Hallowe'en party in 2009. The group of people who hardly knew each other, aged 18 to 80, became quickly acquainted and was laughing together for at least 2 hours.

I instantly knew what I wanted to give as Christmas gifts. And I didn't forget to buy one for myself.

Easy to play, and lots of laugh. All you need is a wild imagination.

Questions & Answers
Question : What games to play to teach children about autism?
My friends and I are doing a community service project to spread awareness about autism. We are planning a roving carnival, with game stations that children can take part in to learn about autism. Basically we just wanna let them understand how it's like to be autistic, or to learn more about autism through the game. Currently the only game we can come up with is Charades. The kids range from 7 years old to 12.Do you guys have any suggestions for games? :)

Answer:
Another game that could be fan and shows again how difficult can be to communicate something, is the following:- Place small items like a clothes pin, a key, a battery, a ring, etc each in a small cotton fabric bag (you need to make these) of the same color and tie them shut.- Make two identical bags of each item. And have the kids in two teams. Each kid gets one of the bags. S/he needs to feel what is inside the bag and then describe it to the team-mates without using the name of the item. Example: Key - it is made of metal, can be used to open a door, has teeth, etc.- Time them. The least time to guess gets a higher score. This will show kids how people with autism can sometimes create a mental image of something (thinking in pictures) but it is hard to communicate (put into words) what it is they "see" in their mind.Since the kids do not see item but visualize it through the sense of touch, they create a 3-D mental image of the item, which is similar of how an autistic person will think of an item before communication what they are thinking in words, describing the mental image, is the hardest part, and that is why the speech of many autistic kids is so fragmented because they are describing a mental 3-D image into 2-D words...Once you have made these little bags with the items, you can use them again and again. If they get dirty just put them in a pilowcase and wash them in the washing machine.Good luck!

Question : What are some good playstation 2 games for our bachelor party?
I'm hosting a bachelor party where most of the night will be a bunch of boozing guys playing poker but I want to have some good PS2 (that is all I have) games for early losers to play while waiting for the next poker tourny. I want to find some good games that a number of people can play and enjoy watching. I've got the sport games covered but I want to find some fun racing games. I remember a game where you drove a truck down a road and tried to cause as much damage as possible. That is the type of game I'm talking about. It is easy to learn and play and drunk guys enjoy watching it.Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Finally, I know this may not be your idea of a great bachelor party but it is what the groom wanted so I organized it for him.

Answer:
Not the game you are thinking of but Need for Speed: Underground is a good one. The drag races are cool and fun to play and watch and they are short, so lots of people will be able to play. You said sports are covered but just in case, Madden is the ultimate guy party game, but I assume you know that.
