butterfly house

This was a gift for my niece that she requested. I had given her a similar product (from the same company) earlier and she really liked it. So she wanted another one for her birthday. I was very pleased with the quick delivery and it arrived in fine shape.

Great educational toy!

These are great, both my 2YO and 6YO have loved it!
Be aware though, you have to send away for the butterflies/food. It's not a big deal - you fill out the enclosed card and send in $3. However, if you're giving this as a gift you may want to open the box & send away for the butterflies first. It's a little disapointing for the kids to find just the empty bug house inside.

Very educational and fun

We mailed in the coupon to receive the caterpillars in mid July, and all 10 survived the hot summer mailbox. Within a week they turned into chrysalids, and after about another week the butterflies just popped out! We got one of them coming out on video camera - they come out quick! One of them couldn't come out quite right, but even the 3 on the floor on a paper towel came out just fine.

They weren't too crazy about sugar water, so I did some research and thought maybe the concentration wasn't high enough. So I used a tablespoon of sugar to 1/2 cup of water, and I see them drink from that a bit more. I also cut up oranges, apples, nectarines, and bananas.

I put the pavillion indoors in a sunny location as they fly better when it's above 85 degrees. We even put a light reflecter nearby with an incadescent bulb to keep them warm. It's cool to see them baske.

I still felt like they weren't eating very much, so I went to a local greenhouse and got a smallest annual plant they had that butterflies love (lantana), and within minutes of putting it inside, the butterflies were all over it. And they started laying eggs!! And they're only 5 days old!! Thankfully I've researched what painted lady caterpillars eat (different species eat different leaves) and been collecting plants outdoors. I just hope if the eggs hatch they won't come out of the mesh holes.

the whole family loved it

My daughter received this from her aunt for her 6th birthday in December. We mailed the enclosed pre-paid card to redeem the larvae in late February. I'm not sure where this was purchased, but there were no hidden, additional costs for us, although my sister paid around $25 for the kit. It took about 2 weeks to receive the larvae, which was packed carefully and properly labeled so the Post Office didn't damage it. It contained 5 larvae and we had 100% success. Facinating to watch as they grow daily. At the point that you remove the crysalids from the plastic cup, it is filled with leftover food, poop, and webs, so you will need someone who is not squeamish. When they were in the butterfly stage, I tried sugar-water on flowers but they didn't seem to eat. Orange slices left mold on the bottom of the cage. Dipping crumpled paper in sugar-water seemed to work best. The butterflies will live about 2 weeks, and we kept them indoors since it was only April and too cold to release them. They did open their wings and become active when the sun came through our window. We released them one warm day after they had been butterflies for two weeks, rather than have them die before our eyes indoors. I would recommend you attempt this 2-month process in warm weather.

lame extra costs

I was really disappointed to find that I had to send off to get the catipellers after the package came. Then they never came. Pretty lame! I do like the idea, lets just hope someone else copies the concept and makes it better with better customer service.

Eww, Eyeball veins...cool!!

This toy is great! My dad bought it for himself and I plan on getting one soon too. I borrowed his, and I was checking everything out, and it made it way to my face, and I was amazed and grossed out at the same time..I put it up to the corner of my eye while I looked the opposite way to the TV and I got to see all the veins on my eye really up close..It was awesome..very fun for both kids and adults.

Okay

I had originally intended on getting my 9 year old son a microscope for Christmas last year, but this was new and the hot new toy so I decided to try this instead. I wish I hadn't. Firstly, you plug it into your tv, fine. But that means bringing anything you want to look at to your tv as well, also not a huge deal but something we didn't really consider before purchasing and it can be a hassle if he wants to look at bugs or something. Also you have to be pretty much on whatever you want to see for the lens to even notice it. The slightest distance away and it might as well be invisable. It's made durable enough, but could have been better. My biggest complain would just have to be not being able to see much with it. The most fun we had was touching it to our skin and hair and looking at that magnified, everything else was lame.

Rating :

So cool!

We have had a riot playing with this toy. Amazing ability to magnify even the smallest things. Would definitely recommend this toy for all kids 6 years and up. Younger can enjoy this toy with the help of a parent. A must for all households.

Curious young minds can learn the basics of electronics as they build more than 100 exciting projects with this kit. Work on projects that make sound effects, engineer different types of alarms, build touch circuits and play games. Contains over 30 parts in all. No soldering is required -- pieces snap together. Requires 2 "AA" batteries, not included. Box measures 10" x 15" x 2".

Customer Review :

Snap-Circuits, A Winner!

I am a teacher who needs self-directed hands-on experiences for my science/technology students at the middle/high school level. Beginners with no previous contact with basic electricity and/or electrons are fascinated with these kits. The parts are well built and durable. The kit is easy to organize and store. The plastic storage tray makes it easy to account for all parts. The kit uses rigid circuit components, making circuits easy to understand... as opposed to using flexible wires. Wires would tend to end up being an uncomprehendable pile of spaghetti. Included are many plans for pre-designed projects, yet the kit is safe and flexible enough to allow a student to experiment to his/her heart's content.

Family fun

I bought the smallest kit available to see if my 10 year old would like it for his birthday. Wow! Both our boys 10 & 5, our daughter, my hubby, his dad and I all found ourselves having a great time with it. Each of us made our own project, some with the book and some without. A good chance for grandpa to show off his very impressive skills! Can't wait to add to the set.

Excellent: Fun, educational

We got this for our son's 6th birthday. It's a little more challenging for him to do it solo but I have no doubt he will be able to within a couple months. He lights up when the music, noise, or lightbulb (or all of them) work. It's a great product. I highly recommend it.

Great gift for kids that like building and figuring out how things work

My 6 year old son really has enjoyed this gift. We've had it for 8 months now and he still picks it up and tries out a new combination of connections. When we first got it he was so excited that he tried to work his way through the guidebook. The guide booklet describes w/ words and pictures what to do with the pieces (order to put them on etc...). It has well over 80 combinations to make a siren, flying disc etc... not to mention being creative with the pieces. The box is sturdy and the pieces all fit securely into it - I image you could even bring it in the car. It's has long been one of our favorites.

Never knew this could be so much fun!

My son played with this at a children's learning museum once and has wanted one ever since. I was skeptical, but suggested it to his aunt for a birthday present. I am impressed at the huge variety of projects kids can do. He just opened it yesterday and he and his best friend have been playing with it for HOURS. Totally cool, very educational, encourages imagination and is just plain fun!!

Question : what is the difference between male vs. female in thier way of thinking from sex 2 careers 2 life and hobbies?
this is my 16 yr old sisters ? she has a report due on it.SHE SAYS HELP PLZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Answer:
In my opinion, not much. I think males and females perceive the world very similarly. I think the main difference is that females filter their feeling with their emotions. On purpose. After all, the facts change dramatically depending on how they make you feel. Men filter their thoughts and opinions with emotions as well. Just not nearly to the extent of women. For the most part men try to avoid bringing their emotions into the equation. Because that would be illogical. Neither is right or wrong. Just two different ways of forming opinions.

Question : how many days after having sex that I can get result from pregnant test ?
I am trying to have a baby. And I am wondering about long does the result show on urine test after sex day. I am really acting by working out at the gym or walking every day, so I worry that my hobbies can effect to whatever I am trying to get during I don't know the resut yet. Shoud I stop doing exercise?

Answer:
Sperm can live in the female body up to 3-5 days if conditions are correct. Following fertilization, it takes 6-12 days for the fertilized egg to make it to the uterus to start implanting. It then takes *at least* 2 days for the implanted zygote to start producing enough HCG (the hormone detected in pregnancy tests) to spill over into the urine in any measurable amount. Many home tests will only measure amounts likely to be found in urine a week or more later. So...the earliest *possible* date for a reliable positive pregnancy test is 8 days (6 plus 2) after sex, but it can take up to 3 1/2 weeks (5 plus 12 plus 7 days) for *some* women (and occasionally even longer). 3 weeks after ovulation is about a week after the first day of your missed period. If you are exercising moderately, this will *not* affect fertility. If you are having irregular menstrual cycles (i.e. one month your cycle will be 25 days, and the next 37, then 29, etc.), when you weren't before you were exercising (every cycle about the same length, such as 32-34 days), cut back a little.

Question : How do you escape from reality when it becomes too much to bear?
Great for the Body and mind.....Love, Meditation, Religion, God, Hobbies, Sex, Reading. Harmful to the body options......Suicide, Alcohol, Drugs, Mental Illness (Depression, Anxiety, Schizophrenia), obsessions, unprotected sex. Are there people who deal with it head on without feeling the need to escape reality ever?!!! I can not pretend that everything is ok when it isn't. People say that I am immature.

Answer:
You're not immature, you do need to take time out, best way is to take a break, get away, I have two places of residence so I can go to the other when things get too much, but you could just take time out, some time on your own and with your friends will do you good...

Question : Ideas for social activities and hobbies where I can meet new people and make new friends?
I'm looking for ideas for some groups, activities, sports or hobbies I could take up in London (preferably SW London) where I can meet new young people (20 - 30s, both genders) and extend my social circle. I've seen events groups for young people, but they all seem a bit 'sad' - I don't want to join a group whose purpose is to help people develop a social life. Instead, I want to try out new activities and sports that will allow me to make new friends. Any suggestions? So for, I have thought about ultimate frisbee, as that's quite fun, casual and relaxed - and it's mixed sex.

Answer:
Well.. your quite lucky you live in London for a start.. If you like frisbee, perhaps you'll like poi.. It's great for meeting interesting people and also developing your mind and motor skills. www.homeofpoi.com They have listings for local groups I think.
