Editorial Review :
Children love making music, and our specially-sized piano makes it easy for your little ones to start playing. Twenty-five color-coded keys teach elementary cues for practicing scales and playing songs. Made of hardwood, it has a two-octave range and includes a starter songbook. 12" H x 16" L x 10" W

Andrew's piano
The only thing my 3 year old son asked for at Christmas this year was a piano. I have been really pleased with all Melissa & Doug toys, so I thought I'd give this piano a try. He loves it, and so does his 1 year old sister. Granted, we had to remove the "cheat sheet" that shows the notes for each key (my kids found out it came off very quickly), and we've had to hide the song book. Otherwise, I haven't had any problems with the top coming off, and I consider my son rough on toys. He's moved this piano around our den with no problems. All in all, a great gift for both of my kids.

My nieces and nephew love this!
I got this for my sister's kids for Christmas and they love it. They are one hear old. It is fun to hear them make their own music. Very durable, also. I love Melissa and Doug products. It is made of wood and is painted in bright colors. It is a very cute, fun toy.

Excellent gift
I got this piano for our daughter (1 1/2 yo) for Christmas, because she enjoyed playing on our friend's regular piano. She enjoys it, and plays with it pretty much, maybe not as often as I hoped, but I guess she's still a little too young for it. It is very sturdy, and sounds pretty good for a toy!

4 hand steps
My granddaughters, ages 36 months and 15 months, love to play solo or duets and the younger, a creeper who climbs, thinks the piano is great to stand on too [strongly discouraged]. The sound is clear with decent tones and the construction is sturdy. G'ma

Mother of 4
I was worried about how durable this toy would be, because in my home if the toy is not durable it will be destroyed. It sounds good and my 3 year old loves it, She bangs on it every time she walks past it.

Remo Kids Floor Tom
This is a wonderful gift for a child. I purchased it for a one and half year old and he plays it a lot. It came with two mallets and if you purchase one be sure it has two mallets. I have taught drumming for over thirty years and the quality, size and sound are fine for a child.

great drum
We bought this drum for our three year old for Christmas. It was a huge hit--with everyone, including the adults. It is very well-made and has a great sound. Love it.
Rating :
My nephew loves this drum!
The Remo Kids Percussion floor drum is exactly as pictured. The Rain Forest fabric assures it will last a long time, and stand up to "kid use" very well. It feels good, looks good and is a superior instrument for an introduction to music. My grandnephew is 4 years old, and this drum is the perfect size for him.

great kids drum not annoying with its sound
Tons of reviews have been written about this drum and having read them much helped me buy it. The sound is indeed pleasant, is indeed a drum-like sound, although I haven't heard many other kids drums, apart from one or two made in Soviet Union, when I was a kid, about 25 or so years ago. My 22 month-old son enjoys playing it, although he doesn't really remember to take it himself, unless I bring it to him. As stated in some of the previous revies, he tends to sit and stand on it, which, I suppose, will damage the product sooner or later so we try not to let him do it. Special thanks to my friend who brought it to us in Russia all the way from Virginia.

Fun, well-made, great for 2 y.o. and up
Got this because my one year old loved it at Gymboree. He received it for Christmas. It's made well although the border at the top isn't completely flush to the drum and I scratched myself on the end of it. A piece of electrical or heavy duty tape on the end of the trim should protect your little one from scratching himself.

Children's Headphones
It's been ok, but we need a little volume control. My children can't hear their leapsters, but it works pretty good in the portable DVD player.
Rating :
Great for 4 year olds.
This is perfect for kids. They are a little small for over 5 yr old head.

Worked well on a trip
We bought the headphones based on other parents' feedback here, and we agree with the feedback as well. It worked well on a couple of plane trips plus other times when we wanted our daughter to listen to movies quietly.
Rating :
toddler sized headphones - work great
These headphones fit my two year old perfectly. My son enjoys wearing them. We are planning on using these to connect to our laptop for a plane ride. They fit comfortably. They are sturdy. It's great that they have a volume limiter built in also. I am very happy with these and would buy them again.

Great headphones...unless you actually want to HEAR something!
My 5 year old got these for Christmas and was going to use them in the car while playing his Leapster. He kept complaining that they didn't work. I thought he was doing something wrong, but he wasn't. The volume is so quiet that I couldn't hear a single word, no matter how hard I tried to listen. We returned them to the store and I bought him a pair of Kidz Gear headphones on Amazon. Problem solved! For the same price, he gets a much more comfortable pair that he can listen to anywhere. They don't have the strict volume control of the Fisher Price or Sony - the pair I bought for my two year old and had the same issue as the FP ones...they went back to the store as well - but at least they can use them them in a quiet room or a loud car where people are talking around them. Both my boys know that I will do volume checks to be sure they don't have it too loud, and my oldest is sensitive to loud noise, so he never cranks it up anyway. If they plan on just using them in their bedrooms quietly, then I guess the FP ones are mediocre but usable. If you can hear sound out of them, it is scratchy and sounds horrible. Kids might not be as picky, but my son had a hard time understanding what his Leapster was saying. Waste of money....Buy Kidz Gear instead!

Memorex MKS-SS1 kicks it out !!
Got this for my niece for Christmas (she is 11).
All I hear about is how her and her friends sing along with the Memorex and are truthfully really enjoying it!!
I also heard that this is leading now to vocal and guitar lessons...
I bought an extra microphone and that allows for some more enjoyment when its time for the friends to sing along.
Dont know how it sounds but I have definitely heard of the fun they are having with it. Great purchase.

Exasperated
We can't agree with the positive reviews on this product - purchasing one has been a headache from start to finish. We bought one for our son for Xmas 3 months ago, and he still doesn't have one that works. Explain that to an 8-year-old. We sent the first back, and the second one doesn't work either. Amazon's return policy is short - read the fine print! - so they wouldn't help. Memorex's was still good and sent another one fairly promptly, but we had to eat the $25 in postage. Now we either get our $ back (if we can) and start all over, or eat another $25 in postage. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!

Customer Review :
My niece says this gift rocks!!!
I bought a pink set of these headphones for my great-niece who is 3 years old...she loves them. Her mom said that the headphones rock, because she can use them for several of her mp3 player & the dvd and other noisy toys!! They looked so cute on my great-niece as she sat in my mom's hospital room watching a movie on her dvd player while we took care of Mom and visited with family. Thanks for making cute, sturdy headphones for kids.

These headphones worked awesome.
My two year old can put them on and take them off by herself and they're really durable.
Rating :
VOLUME TOO LOW
MY 5 YEAR OLD LOVES THESE BUT NEITHER HER NOR I CAN HEAR VERY WELL OUT OF THEM. THE SMALLER EAR BUDS I HAD BOUGHT FOR HER DIDNT FIT HER EAR CANAL SO THESE WERE PERFECT FOR HER AND THEY WERE DECENTLY PRICED ,THEN WE USED THEM ON A ROAD TRIP AND IT SEEMED AS THOUGH SOUND WAS LOW SO I TURNED UP THE VOLUME ON THE MEDIA AND DIDNT RESOLVE THE SITUATION. THE SOUND SAFETY DEVICE IT CONTAINS IS NOT ADJUSTABLE, THEREFORE IT SERVES NO PURPOSE TO US IF WE CANNOT HEAR OUT OF THEM. I WONDER IF I ELIMINATE THIS FEATURE IF THEY WOULD WORK AS A STANDARD PAIR OF HEADPHONES.

Child headphones
This is a great idea and I like that it came in different colors so I could keep track of whose was whose, but I'm a little disappointed that it doesn't have a volume control. My children can't hear their leapsters using it, but it does work well in the car with the portable DVD player. I haven't tested it on an airplane, but I'm hoping they'll be able to hear over the roar of the engines.
Rating :
Great look, and that's about it.
We got this for my daughter for a portable dvd player. She kept saying that she couldn't hear anything. We had the dvd player turned all the way up. We tried regular headphones and they worked fine.

Question : How much music theory knowledge is necessary to study medieval music?
I'm enrolled for a course called History of Medieval Music. I've had AP theory in high school, but quite a few of the people in the class are music majors who have had advanced theory. Is medieval music complicated stuff or what?
Answer:
I agree with Delicio - the interwoven lines of medieval music are often functioning on a level that one does not appreciate without a decent background.Tell you what - get yourself a copy of Gradus ad Parnassum by FUX (that is pronounced FOOKS, so you do not get into trouble. Betcha that Yahoo *cleans up* the spelling!). It is the book that Mozart's teacher used to teach HIM - and countless thousands of other have learned from it. IT goes through the forms of *species counterpoint* - how melodies are built to weave around each other - in a Master and Pupil dialogue. Yes, it can be dry - but see how much of it you can comprehend on your own. If you have a sense of "Ah, Little Grasshopper, see if you can take the cola nuts from my hand!", then it makes it easier to read - we have all seen those kinds of martial-arts learning movies! This can be VERY interesting - my son is getting his MM in Digital Music, and for an elective, decided he needed sometime REALLY different than all the Final and Sibelius and recording stuff running through his head - so HE just tokk a Medieval and Renaissance choral music course - wrote a monster paper on "Spem in Allium". I read it because I am his Mom - otherwise, it would put me into a powerful somnolence . . . A lot depends on the professor - if they are psyched about this, great. If they are a deadly snore - ouch. I had a guy for Art History who was, I swear, the last semi-living grandson of Bela Lugosi. We were asleep in minutes- dark room, too many slides . . .Good luck with the course - you never know until you try.

Question : What kind of a music scene does Downtown Detroit have at nighttime?
The next time I visit Downtown Detroit, I would like to check out the music scene. What kind of a music scene does Downtown Detroit have and where are the best places to see good music. I am interested in seeing contemporary new age music, classical music, and jazz music. Also, are the places to see good music safe to travel to at nighttime?
Answer:
There are good hip-hop shows & I've been to a rave or 2. I wouldn't say it's necessarilly super safe but I do fine there everytime I go. There is a huge free event that lasts for an entire weekend. It's called D.E.M.F. (Detroit Electronic Music Festival). It's has a variety of artists (not only electronica) & is fun & safe. You should Google it. It has to be coming up soon.
