Great X-mas girft for the price

My Daughter had to have this for Christmas this year, She is 7 years old, and loves this puppy, How ever she does not play with it as much as I thought she would, Once the puppy grew to full size, That was it for her, You can however reset the dog so it can grow all over again, The down fall though is once you reset it, you have to re program it all over again with the childs name and so foruth, I think it's a great gift for the price I bought it for 17.99, But there is no way I would pay over 20.00 for this dog, it just doesnt do enough!

so cute!!!!!!!!

This was a hit at Christmas both with my 5 year old daughter and my husband!! My husband thought this was the best toy out of all the toys our 4 children received. It is especially cute when it talks to our daughter. I thought it was a great value as I paid 17.99 for it! So far she takes it to bed with her every night and spends a considerable amount of time playing With "Molly". My husband programed her very easily in a short amount of time too!

What a hit!

My 2yr old daughter loves this dog. It's the next best thing next to a real puppy. I was really pleased that the software was able to program my daughters name because her name is uncommon. This toy was the hit of my holiday season. The price was terrific as well.

The toy is a hude disappointment

I bought this toy for my 5 year old for Christmas. It was the only toy she wanted. We began playing with it, which was fine for a few minutes, and it grew on the first night a couple of inches. The next day we followed the instructions but it wouldn't grow. So we tried again the following 2 days, and still nothing. I did some reading online and learned that this is a common problem. Many other people had the same problem with their puppy growing the first day and never again. I thought others should be aware of this major problem with this toy.

May be better than the real thing!

If you live in a non-pet inviroment, or your life style does not support care of a living animal, this is a great choice. 6yr old loves her dog. She goes back & forth between 3 households, Taking her "pet" is easy, and no one has noise or other pet problems. Only draw back she wanted a name for the dog that was not on the cd, finally settled for another one. Definately recommend!

Unhappy with Puppy

Myself and a relative purchased the Puppy as a gift for my son this Charistmas. After both sets of batteries were replaced and the tags pulled off, the toy still didn't work. Do not waste your money on this gift.

Cute, educational, and affordable

I bought this for my 10 month old. It is bigger than the picture looks. It is very soft and cuddly. The buttons are very sensitive, which makes it easy or your little one to operate. The heart on the dog's chest lights up, which catches my baby's attention. Very educational and perfect for your boy or girl. I recommend this to all parents.

not so happy

The toy was purchased for a nephew for christmas. Upon receiving it the toy didn't work. I'm sure it would have been fun to play with and very educational for that matter, IF IT WORKED.

This is the best toy invented

This is the best toy in the market. We got this for our daughter when she was about 2 months. She is now almost a year old and still loves it. Initially, the music distracted her while we changed her diapers and dressed her after her bath.. now its a toy she will tug along everywhere... its a life saver.. it has alot of songs and other voice responses- very educational and entertaining. THe toy iteself is cute and withstands almost everything... car falls, plane rides..stroller outings... baby's tantrums.. baby hugs.. baby kisses... it just very appealing.. we have gifted this toy to over 5 kids- ages 1 month to 2 years.. boys and girls and i have yet to meet a child who doesnt like this toy... even if you don't buy anything else.. buy this.. you will not regret it! :D

Fun and cute!!

Easy to set up, but only if you have the correct CABLE (not included with the puppy).
Once the software is loaded, etc, it's a very nice toy.

Our five year old LOVES it!

Our five year old got her puppy grows from her wonderful aunt - she has loved it from the start but we ran into a small problem - after day two it wouldn't grow....after some research I found a review from a mom that was having the same problem - she said to change the batteries. We had left the batteries the puppy came with in....there seemed to be nothing wrong with the puppy - it was still interacting with our daughter so we didn't think of changing the batteries...it seems as though the old batteries make the timing of growth off a little/sluggish. We changed the batteries and puppy grew! So...save yourself some time and change the batteries right away - we went through resetting it and pulling our hair out a little before I got on the web and started the search. I also see that there have been issues with the software...we didn't have any problems there. Our daughter loves her "Molly".

Puppy is puppitastic

I gave it to my 3 yr old granddaughter.. She talks to it & carries it everywhere. Her 5 yr old sister wants one now. Easy to figure out I love that it says her name "Bella" I was very pleased that her name was there to add to puppy vocabulary. Thanks for a GREAT TOY!!!!

THE USB CORD THATS NOT INCLUDED!

Ok, its a cute toy..but AMAZON claims it comes with the usb cord. IT DOES NOT! it says that it does in the desciption down by the bottom. I too had to explain to my 3 1/2 year old that santa forgot the cord!!!! AMAZON should be sending everyone a cord, dont ya think?? I am reporting it. I unfortunatley dont have that size usb cord (the connection to the dog is fatter tha usual), so to try and buy one that fits should be real fun! Maybe we can all get together and complain to amazon, they are false advertising!!!

Super Cute and a GREAT toy dog

We bought this for our two and a half year old daughter for Christmas and she LOVES it. It is so cute. She packs it around everywhere.
I had absolutely no problem installing the software and making the puppy know her name and grow. It was easy and fast. Yes, it does take a USB cable but most people have extra ones or you can borrow one from your printer or other device. The whole thing took less then five minutes to program.
I would definitely recommend this toy. It is worth the money.

Getting to know a new friend is fun with the Puppy Grows & Knows Your Name Poodle from Fisher-Price. This interactive toy puppy comes complete with curly white hair, a pink plastic collar, a bone-shaped treat, and a brush. More than that, the puppy actually "grows" over time, and it can be programmed to know your child's name and it's own name (which you pick). With this puppy, children 18 months and up can enjoy having an interactive pet all their own.

What We Think

Fun Factor:

Durability:

(what this means)

The Good: Puppy really grows and "learns" new sayings

The Bad: Hard body isn't padded beneath the soft fur

In a Nutshell: Kids are sure to love having a pet that calls them by name

At a Glance

Ages: 18 months and older
Requires: Windows PC with a CD drive and USB port

Puppy is smallest when you first open the box. (Poodle version shown) View larger.

In four days, puppy is fully grown. (Poodle version shown) View Larger.
Cute, Cuddly, and Easy-to-Program
Before your child adopts this puppy, an adult will need to program the puppy and make sure that four AA batteries are installed. Programming is fast and easy. Simply insert the included CD in your computer's CD-ROM drive, follow the directions to complete installation, and open the user-friendly application. This lets you select your child's name, check the pronunciation, pick a name for your puppy, and upload the data to your puppy using the included USB cable.

Now "Pickles," "Snowball," or "Chi Chi" is ready to meet your child. The first time we touched her back, our puppy wagged her tail and said, "Hi, Tony. How are you? I'm feeling happy today." A few seconds later, she said, "Let's play, Tony." Try sticking the bone in her mouth to hear crunching sounds, or petting her soft fur.

Have Fun Charting Puppy's Growth
Puppy has more to offer than just fun, interactive movements and sayings. Over the course of four days, this puppy actually "grows." Watching the puppy get taller right in front of our eyes quickly won us over. And, unlike a real dog, Puppy Grows and Knows Your Name can go back to being a puppy, so you and your child can watch the growth cycle all over again. Our puppy didn't come with a set of instructions, so we had to figure out her pattern of growth on our own.

The included chart helps kids measure and track the growth of their puppy. Plus, puppy has something new to say each of the four days, which makes it seem like she really is learning as she grows. Part of this learning process includes singing two songs that feature your child's name, which are sure to delight little pet owners.

This puppy is recommended for children as young as 18 months, but younger children, who are sure to love the way puppy speaks right to them, may not be as interested in measuring growth and watching puppy mature. Plus, since Puppy Grows and Knows Your Name is battery powered, she has a hard body underneath her furry coat. We felt that a little more padding would make this her a much more huggable friend.

While the programming CD requires a system running Windows 2000, XP, Vista or higher, the puppy can still be fun even if you use a Mac or don't have a computer. Without programming, the poodle simply calls itself "Puppy" and your child "Friend." And even though a wide variety of names, including David, Geronimo, Sharif, and Zelda, appear in the list of names your puppy recognizes, if your child has a very unusual name, you may not be able to "teach" it to the puppy. Setting the puppy to speak to a "Friend" or "Buddy" instead of using a single name can also be an excellent solution for children who share their puppy with siblings.

Overall, Puppy Grows and Knows Your Name is a great pick for children who love dogs but can't have a live puppy of their own. She's sure to inspire lots of creative interaction, and parents are sure to appreciate that they don't get stuck walking the dog, buying food, and picking up messes.

What's in the Box
Puppy, bone, brush, tape measure, growth chart, birth certificate, 4 AA batteries, USB cable, and programming CD.

Cute, fun toy...

I bought this for my almost 3 year old daughter for Christmas and it has been a huge hit. She loves dogs anyway, so this gives her her very own to take care of. Since my daughter loves dragging it around, I'm not sure how long it will work properly. She has the carrier also and loves putting her puppy into it. The dog is a bit hard under its soft fur, but we expected that, being the kind of toy that it is. My only disappointment was with the fact that you had to choose one of the dog names off the list/software, and couldn't create one of your own. Thankfully, my daughter was agreeable to almost anything at the time. A cute toy overall.

Awesome Toy!

My 5 year old daughter received this puppy for Christmas. It is fantastic! She loves playing with it. It keeps her attention and she loves feeding it and hearing it say her name. It does not come with the USB cable but we had one on hand so it worked out great! My daughter loves to watch it grow as well and speak her name. Great gift idea!!

You do not get a USB to connect the dog to the computer.

I bought this puppy for my two year old niece. I was very disappointed from the start. It came with a CD to download puppy name and child name.
It does not come with the usb connection from dog to computer. So I did not put my nieces name in or the puppy. It kept her attention a few minutes then she was done with it. She tried to cuddle it , but it's too hard. I would have sent it back but it was a birthday present and she had already opened it. Too much for shipping.

Boring!

I bought this last year for my then 2-year-old son when it first came out for [...] Since I ordered it on Amazon, sending it back would mean losing out on a big chunk of what I paid for it in return shipping, so we just kept it. It was one of the worst toy purchases I have ever made.

The puppy's voice is not very pleasant, in my opinion, and upon loading up the software you'll find that at least 80% of the names available to give your puppy are female names. It's not that big of a deal, but my son wanted his puppy to be a boy and the voice sounds like a boy, so I didn't quite get the lack of male names on the software.

My major gripe is the total lack of variety. On the first day, the puppy says only 2 or 3 different things. As he grows, he says one new thing each day and repeats all the others. It gets extremely repetitive very fast. The bone and brush (if you can manage to not lose them) are fun at first because the puppy says something specifically about the item, but the bone is tricky to get in the right spot. You have to push it against his nose more than put it in his mouth. Still, it made my son giggle quite a bit when the puppy burped the first few times after having the bone.

The growing aspect is also lacking. It does not grow as much as you're led to believe. A few inches is about it. And due to all the mechanical parts that make this puppy tick, it is hard as a rock and not cuddly in any way. My son used to try to drag him around the house and it's just silly seeing him drag this heavy, stiff animal around.

He did enjoy him the first few days, but now the puppy is lucky to get his attention once every few weeks. I cringe every time I think of all the other quality toys I could have gotten him for what I paid for this. Not recommended!

You have to remember that it is a toy......

This was one of the Amazon "bargains" of the day - and thought 11 year old granddaughter would like it. Wasn't exactly sure what it did, etc. but she loves stuffed animals......and this dog is just too cute!!!! As people came to her house, I kept saying - look at this dog - and finally everyone said - We Saw The Dog - but, that IS how cute it is!!!!!

Adorable!

I had never bought a Webkinz before but my granddaughter wanted one for her birthday and I ended up buying two, the German Shepherd and a Lab.
I was impressed with the Shepherd, it is soft and touchable and has the cutest face. My granddaughter grabbed it up right away and fell in love with it. We haven't been on the website yet so I'm not sure how that will go, but we look forward to it. They are a little pricey, but so far they definitely have brought a smile to a child and I think that is what it is all about. Nice product.

Questions & Answers
Question : Can anyone recommend an indestructable plush dog toys?
My dog Natsha loves plush, squeaky toys, but I have yet to find a toy that could withstand her teeth. She is an older dog, but must have teeth as solid as Stonehenge, because she destroys her toys within 5-10 minutes. She has toys like Kongs and things like that, but she doesn't like them as well as she does the squeaky toys.

Answer:
Sure go to Planet Dog.com they have toys ranked by their chew- o- meter. Their toys are the very best. They are located in Portland, ME. By the way my dog hate Kong stuff!!!!!

Question : Is Febreze safe on plush dog toys?
I made the mistake of putting a slobbered up plush toy in a plastic tote with the other toys and such when I moved and now everything stinks. I tried washing them and hanging them outside but it didn't work. Obviously I would let it dry completely before letting my dog play with it, but it would still be in their mouth. What do you think?

Answer:
I would not Febreeze the dog toy. Try adding baking soda to the wash as it may take the smell out and then hang it out or lay it out to dry in the sun. The sun is a good helper to get rid of smells. Worth a try. I have done it before with some of my beagle toys and its worked on some and others I just had to throw away and replace.

Question : where can i find a squeaky plush dog toy called penelope pug?
I bought at petco i no longer can find it it has big bug eyes and is made by favorite friends.

Answer:
Try ebay.My guys love those hedgehogs made by plush puppies from petco.I've got a dozen of them and they all know who's toy is who's.I got almost all mine new off of ebay.Good luck!

Question : Where can I find a Target plush dog that may be discontinued? ?
I need to find the target dog that was dressed as a ninja. I have checked ebay and the target company store and could not find it.

Answer:
post ads and try google, newspapers...

Question : Can anyone tell me the name of or link me to a 90s toy; it was a plush dog with weighted legs and a leash?
The paws were round and made of a soft plastic/rubber so they resisted when pulled and made the dog look like it was walking. There was a long haired white one and a short haired white one with brown spots. there were other types too I think. They were probably a foot in length and maybe a little taller than a foot.

Answer:
theres one across the street off yahoo and myspace be careful not to pass the street name is ebay sir! there are three major streets before u reach ebay take the google fwy, then head for the cartoonnetwork.com highway BE SURE NOT TO PASS IT take a right off disney.com well there if you get lost contact yahoo =)

Question : What is the best way to clean plush/stuffed dog toys?
I've noticed some of my puppies stuffed toys are getting kind of smelly. Most of the tags say to "surface wash" the toy. Anybody have any good suggestions on cleaning them?

Answer:
wash them in the washing machine in hot water with a gentle detergent on gentle cycle. I am a shelter manager and that is what we do every day with our stuffy toys. Dry them on warm in the dryer.

Question : Name This Toy - Plush Dog That Gave Birth to Puppies?
When I was a lot younger in the early 90s, I had a toy that I can't remember the name of? I'm just curious to know if anyone knows what it was?It was a plush dog that had about 5 or 6 plush puppies in its tummy that was held together by velcro. It was really popular at the time.Thanks.

Answer:
they had cat ones too... I had a orange cat that had white and black kittens

Question : How long should a dog have a plush toy intact?
I love to buy my Ginger (dachsund) a stuffed toy so that we can play catch and tug. But she can destroy a medium sized one in 2 days. I understand that dachsunds are bred to dig for underground animals, but she grabs the toy by the neck and shakes her head so violently, I think the toy itself is dying. She doesn't like plastic ones, the snotty brat, so that's out of the question.

Answer:
I have a beagle and a mini dachshund. In our house the life span of a toy varies greatly. Sometimes they only last a few hours! Some of the toys have been there over a year. Just let your Ginger have fun. Look for toys in the clearance section at the pet store.

Question : Where do I get a good quality plush/stuffed Border Collie Dog?
I am a big fan of Border Collie Dogs and Blue Heeler, Australian Blue Cattle Dogs. Does anyone know where I can get a good quality lifelike stuffed toy of either of these dogs ?

Answer:
i would try toys r us.....or kb toys....i have always had good luck there.

Question : My dog chews everything except for a plush toucan, why?
My dog chews anything and everything ranging from metal scraps to tire-like material. Any toy we ever buy her, she destroys within 20 minutes. Even the tough ones! However, there is 1 plush toy that she never destroys. Why is that? Often times we can catch her cuddling it on her bed, and gently playing with it. But other plush toys, will meet their demise starting with the eyeballs. What is it about this toucan that is so special to her?I'm not looking for answers like. "She Loves the Toucan," because I'm sure she does. I don't understand why she chose this one toy. It doesnt even look like a dog or anything. And she never had puppies so I don't think she's maternal. What do you think?

Answer:
I don't know why dogs do this but one of my dogs does this as well. Any other stuffed toy we give her gets disemboweled in minutes, but she has claimed this big stuffed teddy bear and she carries it around like a baby. She will not allow any of the other dogs to touch it and she seriously babies that thing. She walks really slow with it in her mouth as not to hurt it and she even snuggles it. Normally, she is very submissive to the other dogs but if one tries to take her 'baby' she puts up a huge fight. It's hilarious and adorable all at the same time. Why she chose that, I have no idea.
